Drogheda's fabulous tenor Seán Tester gave an astounding performance of some of his repertoire as the popular local singer joined forces with Drogheda Brass Band for a highly successful concert in the Augustinian Church on Sunday 25th February.
Under musical director Stephen Murray, the band put on a masterful display as well, featuring Neal O'Kennedy on cornet and Brian Murphy on trombone as soloists during their sets.
Kicking off with a traditional brass band march - Castle Coch - the band set the tone for what would be a thoroughly enjoyable evening of music and song.
Neal O'Kennedy delighted the audience with his rendition of Ben Hollings' First Light, before the band finished their opening half with Franz von Suppé's Light Cavalry overture.
Seán then took to the stage to sing through his set for the concert.
In the second half, Drogheda Brass Band opened with On Imber Downe, the first movement of the test piece The Lost Village of Imber that they have to perform at the National Band Championships 2024 in Athlone this coming April.
Brian Murphy then gave a powerful performance of the haunting Paul Lovatt Cooper piece Donegal Bay, as Irish-themed slow melody.
Earth Wind and Fire's Got To Get You Into My Life got the audience tapping along, before another slow piece, an arrangement of the hymn Lloyd.
Stephen then teased the audience, promising a tune from Queen's A Night At The Opera album - which turned out to be the lesser-known Seaside Rendezvous!
Philip Harper's atmospheric Rings of Saturn took the audience to another world, featuring Neal O'Kennedy, Kirsty Kerr and Darragh McCabe who helped create the mood by standing midway down the church to good effect.
Beyond The Sea, made popular from the closing titles of Disney's Finding Nemo movie, ended the concert on a high note.
But there was more to come, as Seán joined the band on stage and whisked the audience back in time with a stunning recital of the famous Italia 90 World Cup hit Nessun Dorma, from the Turandot opera.
As a bright and fast finale, Seán showed his versatility by singing You Can't Stop The Beat from the musical Hairspray with the band playing along.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening for all involved.
